Women’s Roles in the Years Encompassing World War I
[ send me this essay ]
A 4 page discussion of the importance of women’s roles in this interesting time in world history. The author asserts that Woodrow Wilson’s contention that World War I was a war to ensure democracy simply did not pan out either domestically or internationally. Instead the world was left tremendously unstable, an instability which reflected itself domestically as well as politically. Women, by banding together in such movements as the Progressive Movement were able to instrument much-needed change. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Women’s Status: Classical, Middle And Modern Times
[ send me this essay ]
11 pages in length. Women’s status throughout the ages has experienced significant changes from complete patriarchal control to the birth of feminism and beyond, a metamorphosis that clearly illustrates the struggles inherent to both historical and contemporary gender issues. That women have only recently – upon the overall timeline of existence – demanded and received many of the same advantages intrinsically associated with a male-dominated society is indicative of how critical gender equity has become in modern times. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Women’s Work -- 19th Century Barriers and Prejudice Against Women
in the Professions
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that
women face considerable barriers in the professional realm,
especially those women who have literary aspirations. Drawing
from Woolf’s writing and that of Brigid Brophy, this report
considers whether or not women are still “like animals in a
modern zoo” who are held back by invisible bars. Woolf felt that
her own works provided a change from the typical egotistical work
of males during her time. No additional sources listed.

Women, Work And The Family
[ send me this essay ]
4 pages in length. Developing opportunities have become a major social challenge for corporations. Barriers to women's equal participations in the work place are yielding to the forces of economic change, greater need for skilled people in all categories, the demands of women to be treated equally and the presence of equal opportunity laws. However, even with all these positive forces, achieving full workplace parity remains a goal to be reached. Women's greater participation in the nation's labor force has brought with it significant adjustments in family life and social values, thereby requiring changes in corporate practices and policies. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Woolf's "A Room Of One's Own" - Isolation And Androgyny
[ send me this essay ]
3 pages in length. The extent to which isolation is such a critical component to the development and maintenance of an androgynous mind in Woolf's A Room of One's Own is both grand and far-reaching; that society's gender encoding wholly precludes Orlando's ability to attain mental androgyny speaks to the constant – if not invisible – undercurrent of judgment and forced conformation people experience when they go against conventional sex roles. Woolf illustrates how society compels men to be men and women to be women; for androgyny to exist beyond these stringent stipulations, it can only do so in the only place where such social dictate ceases to exist: in isolation. No bibliography.
