Developmental Psychology in Different Age Groups
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages. An individual who is suffering from any one of many forms of mental illness can display many socially unaccepted behaviors; within this mindset the pathological personality has been found to be a prevalent occurrence. It can be argued, however, that a significant number of people engage in some form of pathological personality at some time during their formative youth without the added burden of being mentally ill. In this case, motivation for such behavior is often placed upon an unstable home life or other social factors. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Developmental Psychology: Research on Adaptation
[ send me this essay ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing research on adaptation in developmental psychology. Within the field of psychology, adaptation describes “the process of change in organisms or species to accommodate to a particular environment, enabling their survival”. From a developmental, biological and sociological level, there are considered to be two main types of adaptive behavior: closed programs which basically are transmitted from generation to generation and remain relatively unchanged; and, open genetic programs which are greatly influenced from environmental factors (Gale, 2001). In addition, adaptation can be discussed in terms of individuals or in terms of how groups adapt to new environments. Often individual adaptation is studied in regards to the biological or physiological components which are carried from generation to generation and largely these factors are inflexible and remain relatively unchanged. However, there are many studies which examine how social or environmental factors can also affect adaptive behavior and increase the survival in new situations. These studies examine the cultural, family and socioeconomic relationships in groups and individuals and indicate that while initially some individuals may not be flexible or adaptive to new environments, positive adaptation factors such as strong culture bonds, strong family relationships and resilience can increase adaptability in individuals suggesting that individuals are flexible and can be highly adaptive in new environments; factors which increase their chance of survival. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Developmental Theories For Personal Development
[ send me this essay ]
20 pages in length. Experiencing life requires much more than merely going through the paces of one's existence; rather, the various developmental stages inherent to personal growth require cognitive awareness in order to achieve a true state of being. Myriad people do not realize the abundant elements that comprise one's personal development, often incorrectly surmising that one's transition from childhood to adolescence, marriage to family and advanced education to career are all a matter of happenstance. This presumption, however, does not reflect the intrinsic responsibilities of external influence upon one's personal development, rendering any single theory devoid of comprehensive function over all individuals. The writer discusses Jean Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory, John Dewey's Progressivism Theory and the Development Model of Education. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
