Machiavelli’s Theory of the Ideal Leader and Its Application in Today’s World
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 5 page paper on Machiavelli and his theory of the ideal leader. Niccolo Machiavelli was born in 1469 in Florence, Italy and was one of the more distinguished thinkers to come out of the Renaissance period and his work is still often used to describe political leaders to this day. Machiavelli was well versed in the political arena and he composed several philosophies in which he described what he considered to be the most effective ways in which to run a country. In describing leadership, Machiavelli referred more than once that a leader of a country is most powerful if he acts immorally, because if he were to act ethically, it would lead the leadership and the country open to enemies who “will destroy all possibility of an ethical world”.

Machiavelli: How Far Do His Patterns Of Contrast Between Political Ideals And Concrete Realities Apply Today?
[ send me this essay ]
3 pages in length. Despite the fact that Machiavelli's own political context is remote, his patterns of contrast between political ideals and concrete realities apply with great influence in today's political climate, one that reflects the events that encompasses both the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. Politicians have attempted - and for the most part succeeded - to abide by Machiavelli's myriad political ideals, not the least of which includes there being little association between ethics, morals and political office; complete separation of Church and state; as well as an omnipotent state that still considers the well-being of its constituency. Machiavelli: Views And Ideas On Government
[ send me this essay ]
6 pages in length. According to Machiavelli, a successful and powerful government balances its strengths by offsetting differing interests, while always taking into account public good. Additionally, a president who is worth his salt makes exceptional use of the political climate, much like Harry Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower did during their presidencies. Equally important as the removal of morality from politics was the elimination of religion, as well. This theory, which is still valiantly fought for today, became a basic tenet of democracy epitomized in the U.S. Constitution. Eighteenth century enlightenment philosopher Voltaire also criticized the coupling of church and state, saying it was not supported by any means of logic. It can be argued that solely because of Machiavelli's efforts that the church was encouraged to loosen its power over society. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
