Thematic Similarities: T.S. Eliot - The Wasteland. R. Chandler - The Long Goodbye.
[ send me this essay ]
(5 pp) Sometimes the things unite two works of fiction are the most obvious, and so we do not even consider them. Such may be the case with Raymond Chandlers, The Long Goodbye and T.S. Eliot's poem The Wasteland: one is about a mystery, and one is mystery. It would be nice if it were settled that easily, wouldn't it? But not nearly so much fun, as if we see what other elements might tie these diverse appearing works together.

Themes Used in the Poetry of Robert Frost and Hart Crane
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the themes and settings used within the poetical works of American poets Robert Frost and Hart Crane. American poets Robert Frost and Hart Crane both used settings and environments which were relevant to them to depict the emotions and central themes in their work. Frost during his days writing from New Hampshire in the 1920s, used images found in nature to depict the central themes of the changing seasons in relation to how nature and the changing seasons within life in general can be either embraced or denied. In the 1920s, Hart Crane had spent most of his time in the larger urban centers of Cleveland and New York and hence these environments are used the most in much of his work at this time. Crane used the images within the city to portray one of his central themes which was that of restlessness, constant shifting and at times, loss. Despite this dyer content however, Crane does insert faint positive glimpses which can provide some hope for the readers. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
