Comparing Atomist and Platonist Thinking and Philosophy
[ send me this essay ]
This 10
page report discusses the differences between the Atomists and
the Platonists of ancient Greece. According to the atomic theory
of matter, all things are composed of minute, invisible,
indestructible particles of pure matter (atoma, “indivisibles”),
which move about eternally in infinite empty space (kenon, “the
void”). Pleasure and happiness are the highest good for the
atomists because when the body dies, the soul dissolves.
Platonists are concerned with the nature of the soul and
self-examination. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

[ send me this essay ]
This 14 page report discusses Libertarian and social
responsibility theories that are inherent in the development and
political mindset of people throughout the world. At its core,
libertarian theory holds that the rights of the individual are
predominant over all else. The doctrine of libertarianism
stresses the right to self-ownership and, by extension, the right
to private ownership of material resources and property. The
theory of social responsibility, aside and apart from its obvious
meanings in terms of both the individual’s obligation to the
state and society’s obligations to the individual, addresses
issues related to receiving information that best serves the
needs and interests of the individual in order to assure that he
or she is able to attain their maximum degree of personal freedom
and satisfaction. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Comparing Philosophies Of Life Through Classic Literature
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. There exist a great many philosophies by which people live their lives, which ultimately help maintain order and a sense of direction that otherwise would merely drift in subconscious thought. Examining these varied philosophies as they relate to Benjamin Franklin's attitude toward achieving material wealth and rising in the world; Henry David Thoreau's argument for a more spiritual way of life; Ralph Waldo Emerson's insistence on the need for self reliance and thinking for one self even to the point of separation from others; and Nathaniel Hawthorne's sad portrait of Young Goodman Brown, one finds that the separation between and among these philosophies reflects the distinct separations that also divide society. Comparison of the Radical Revolutionary and Liberal Democratic Schools of Political Thought in Regards to The Human Condition, Government and Society, The Rights of Man and Freedom
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 7 page paper discussing the ideals of the radical revolutionary and the liberal democratic schools of thought. The ideals of the radical revolutionary schools of thought as seen in the writings of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Karl Marx and Frederick Engels contrast in the basic elements of individuals and society from the school of liberal democratic thought advocated by Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and America’s founding fathers. Within the radical revolutionary school of thought governments were given certain rights over individuals in return for the protection of their citizens and the allocation of justice and the products of labor. Liberal democratic thought on the other hand believed that men were born were certain natural rights which could not be taken away unless voluntarily. In addition, if governments did not promote the general will of the people, they could be withdrawn. The basic rights of life, liberty and happiness in addition to Locke’s private property were the most consistent features found in the liberal democratic school and which were promoted in America and France shortly after they were proposed. The theories of Marx and Engels however originated the ideals of socialism in its truest form.
