Tim Burton’s Movie “Sleepy Hollow”
[ send me this essay ]
This 7 page report discusses
Tim Burton’s 1999 movie, “Sleepy Hollow,” starring Johnny Depp
and Christina Ricci and why it is considered by many critics (and
fans) to be the best overall work he has produced. There are
important cinemagraphic influences in “Sleepy Hollow” that have
nothing to do with individual characters or storylines and
everything to do with how light and image is manipulated to
create a visual sense of questioning and mystery. The
cinematography is lush yet foreboding. As a result of such
remarkable visuals and the performance of Depp, so quietly spoken
one feels like they must constantly ask him to repeat himself,
the end result is something that comes close to being the
ultimate horror-fantasy. Bibliography lists 2 sources and
original work.

Tim Burton, Film Director
[ send me this essay ]
( 7 pp.) Film director Tim Burton says about his
actors: "I love chameleons. I love actors who
like to transform. He's a major transformer. He
doesn't care how he looks. In fact, he wants to
look worse than you want him to look, you know. So
there's a real freedom to that. It just makes the
process that much more fun and easy because you're
not worried about vanities of any type. You just
focus on trying to find the right tone. It's a very
liberating process." The chameleon quality of
this film director himself, is explored in this
discussion. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Toni Morrison’s “Beloved” -- Comparing Movie to Novel
[ send me this essay ]
This 5
page report discusses Toni Morrison’s 1987 novel, “Beloved,” and
the 1998 screen adaptation of the novel starring Oprah Winfrey.
The writer expresses a strong preference for the novel and
asserts that the film was not a good adaptation of it. One of
Toni Morrison’s great talents as a writer is the way she develops
her characters throughout the process of the story she is
telling. Each presents himself or herself as an individual in
their own right who is about to be irrevocably changed by virtue
of the life processes they will encounter. Unfortunately, such
depth is neglected in the movie. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
