Mary Tyler Moore Show & Feminist Theory
[ send me this essay ]
A 6 page research paper/essay that analyzes the Mary Tyler Moore Show, which premiered in 1970, and was one of the "most literate, realistic, and enduring situation comedies" of that decade (Fuller). The leading character on the series, Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore), was an idealized single career woman. The writer discusses and analyzes this show in relation to feminist critical theory and concludes that this show's protagonist was, indeed, very feminist and offers still a positive portrayal of professional women. [ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact
that the mass media works to support militarism even when it
hides behind the premise that war is a necessary component of
peace. The report suggests that such thinking is representative
of what George Orwell called “doublethink” in his novel “1984.”

Mass Media: Description And Analysis Of Habits
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. Mass media represent different things to different people. For some, the aspect of television means the epitome of rest and relaxation; for others, print media such as magazines and newspapers reflect a combination of entertainment and current events; while still others relate to music as though it were another world entirely where they can become lost within its pleasure. Clearly, the manner by which people use mass media are as divergent as the individuals themselves. No bibliography.

Master of Suspense: Alfred Hitchcock
[ send me this essay ]
6 pages. Alfred Hitchcock
has long been regarded as the master of suspense. What is it
that makes his movies endure for decades, while others seem to
slip into obscurity? This paper will delve into the magic and
determination behind the man and his art, that of producing
psychological thrillers that set the standard for the genre of
suspense in movies. It is the suspensefulness that typifies a
Hitchcock film, and one knows that this master did not need the
obligatory blood and violence of today's films to produce the
same emotional tenseness that still carries on today.

Math in Cinema
[ send me this essay ]
A 12 page research paper that examines the topic of how math has been addressed in recent films. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Maus & Schinder's List
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page essay that contrasts and compares Art Spiegelman's Maus (volumes I and II) and Steven Spielberg's film Schindler's List, which are both visually representations of the Holocaust. In both cases, the creators of these works employ the specific properties of their medium to better convey their personal vision of the meaning and reality of the horrors of genocide. Spiegelman's visual form is the graphic novel (the generic term of "comic book" seems hardly applicable). He employs text (often in the form of "bubbles" that show what characters think of say), but in addition to images, dialogue boxes and commentary, there are also maps of Poland and the camps, diagrams of hideouts, and real photographs from Spiegelman's family album. Spielberg, of course, employs cinematic tools, using sight, color, sound, music and visual effects to convey his personal sense of the tragedy. No additional sources cited.

McCarthyism and Film Noir
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the idea
that it would be useful to take the idea that film noir evolved
in the midst of McCarthyism one more metaphorical level and
consider the ways in which McCarthyism actually was the
embodiment of film noir. Creativity was questioned in the service
of pointless but generally hysterical politics. Interestingly,
the dark and brooding tone of film noir echoes the dark,
brooding, and accusatory climate that was the norm in Hollywood
during the government’s hunt for communist witches and potential
informers. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
