Andrei Tarkovsky's "The Mirror"
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the 1975 movie Zerkalo or "The Mirror" written and directed by Russian film director and writer, Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-86). Tarkovsky is generally thought of among film critics and historians as Russia's greatest film director next to Sergei Eisenstein. Not surprisingly, his artistry was heavily influenced by the political realities of his time and working in Moscow as were Eisenstein's. Tarkovsky's films can be described as "semi-dissident" because of their deep philosophical approach to relationship between human beings and their environment.

Andrew Niccol's "Gattaca": Philosophical Theme
[ send me this essay ]
6 pages in length. In humanity's quest to embrace the concept of Utopia, Niccol's treatment of the human condition would typically inspire one to envision a world where people live life in accordance with the rule of reason; however, the writer's intent was quite the opposite. Utilizing "Gattaca" as a metaphor for Utopia – meaning true human happiness – clearly displays the need for ethical humanism, inasmuch as it is not difficult to ascertain just how off track society has gone in its urgent quest to reap materialistic benefits and gain individual domination. The writer discusses that as one relates the consequences of a world without moral fortitude, one can also perceive the manner by which humanity has overstepped the boundaries that bring together ethical conscience and humanism. [ send me this essay ]
This 6
page report discusses the comic actor Andy Kaufman (1949-1984).

attitudes about him -- they love him, thought him to be a comic
genius, and are certain he was greatly under-estimated. The
other attitude is that Kaufman was tiresome, a mediocre talent,
and are certain he was greatly over-estimated. Regardless of
personal likes or dislikes, one can see that Kaufman always
presented his commentary on contemporary life. Whether the
audience liked or agreed with it was not his concern.
