The Green Mile - A Review.
[ send me this essay ]
(5 pp) . If you are not a Stephen King fan, and
see his name in the credits, buck up -take a few
courage pills, with your popcorn, and go to see
the movie anyway. . The setting of a Louisiana
prison in the days of striped suits and chain
gangs, is not displayed as the movie begins, but
rather we see an older man who doesn't sleep well
at night any more; his long walks and an old clip
of Fred and Ginger dressed in their finest. The
movie dissolves "Paul" into tears. As a method of
release of his emotions, he begins to tell his
story to a friend, and there our true story
begins: of men who have the courage to show
their humanity and humor in the most negative
of environments - death row.

The Historical Development of Television: Social and Cultural Uses and Impact
[ send me this essay ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing the history of television and its cultural impact. Although it is difficult to pinpoint the exact date as to when television was invented due to the multiple projects which occurred in technology in the 20th century, once television was introduced and accepted into modern households, the information industry has never been the same. Television has had a great impact on many cultural aspects of modern society. Televised events which were widely broadcasted and seen such as the Berlin Olympics in 1936, Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953 and the moon landing in 1969, all were experienced not by a single community but by an international community which formed unifying cultural significance globally. Many other events which previously would only have been seen or experienced on local levels were also nationally broadcast which in turn broadened the cultural understanding of many societies. With this global information however, television also brought several controversial elements in its popularity. Children and adults today watch a great deal of television on a daily basis and are highly influenced by advertising and violence depicted onscreen. In addition to concerns of overexposure and perception of television programs which may slowly be changing or accurately reflecting elements in society, other cultures are further alienated by Western programming as the communication structure is different from their own.

The History and Future of African Cinema
[ send me this essay ]
A 12 page overview of African cinema. This paper notes that African cinema is the product of a number of factors, one of the most important of these being colonial influence. Africa has, in fact, been a land of triple heritage, a heritage which balances between African, French, and British values and there are still perceptible differences in cinematic preferences generations after the end of colonialism. It can be contended in fact that African film culture has been acutely inhibited by postcolonial social and economic condition. At the same time, however, contemporary African cinema is making its way into our modern world. The evolution of this cinema, although it maintains a distinctive African flavor, parallels that which is occurring in European countries and the U.S.
