Death of a Salesman/Pursuit of Happyness
[ send me this essay ]
A 5 page essay that compares Arthur Miller’s play “Death of a Salesman” and the 2006 film “The Pursuit of Happyness” (directed by Gabriele Muccino for Columbia Pictures) present two very different portrayals of fatherhood. The protagonists for both works are salesman, both fathers, both down-and-out and desperate to succeed. But they are also extremely different, in that Miller’s Willy Loman has a false sense of values and no sense of his own identity, while the film’s protagonist, Chris Gardner displays a firm sense of values and also demonstrates that he knows his own potential and abilities. In both cases, how the men view themselves is a legacy that is transmitted to their sons. Bibliography lists 1 source.

A 7 page research paper/essay that examines the last works of Debussy. The writer argues that Debussy was, above all else, a musical innovator. Looking specifically his sonatas for cello, flute-viola-harp & violin, the writer argues that examination of these works, focusing on his Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, indicates that it is necessary to know something of the “sprit and style” of these works in order to accurately reconstruct Debussy’s intention regarding performance practices (Abravanel 28). Deconstructing Film and Cross-Referencing Shakespeare’s “Hamlet" and “Richard the Third”
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that the unique aspect of the universality of very well-known works being turned into a cinema application is that the audience has easy access to the original text and, in fact, may have seen the story presented in a different context, in a number of circumstances. They are likely to know the story and are interested to see how it will be presented in a new format. Therefore, the ability to cross-reference the original work by Shakespeare and the modern adaptation serve as a valuable tool in defining style, impact, and effectiveness of the film adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s works. No sources listed.
