Themes Used in the Poetry of Robert Frost and Hart Crane
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the themes and settings used within the poetical works of American poets Robert Frost and Hart Crane. American poets Robert Frost and Hart Crane both used settings and environments which were relevant to them to depict the emotions and central themes in their work. Frost during his days writing from New Hampshire in the 1920s, used images found in nature to depict the central themes of the changing seasons in relation to how nature and the changing seasons within life in general can be either embraced or denied. In the 1920s, Hart Crane had spent most of his time in the larger urban centers of Cleveland and New York and hence these environments are used the most in much of his work at this time. Crane used the images within the city to portray one of his central themes which was that of restlessness, constant shifting and at times, loss. Despite this dyer content however, Crane does insert faint positive glimpses which can provide some hope for the readers.

Themes/Anne Bradstreet
[ send me this essay ]
A 4 page essay that analyzes 4 poems by Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672), Puritan poet and writer, as well as a devoted wife and loving mother in colonial America. Examination of a selection of her poetry demonstrates two distinct themes. First of all, like many American poets who would come after her, Bradstreet's religious verse is inspired by the spiritual inspiration that she finds in the wonders and beauty of the natural world. Secondly, however, there is another prevalent theme, which addresses the subject that constitutes the central context for her life, which was her love and concern for her family. These poems not only show her devotion, but also the uncertainties of life in the seventeenth century. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
