This is a 4 page critical analysis of Chaucer’s “The Wife of Bath’s Tale”. The Wife of Bath is portrayed as an independent woman who, having been widowed five times already still has a desire as to what she and any woman would want in another marriage. Contrary to beliefs at the time, the Wife also feels that she has learned most of her knowledge about marriage by experience and not the Church. Also through her own tale-within-a-tale she reveals that what women want are young, virile men who give their wives love, respect and sovereignty of the household.
