History Of The Miranda Law
[ send me this essay ]
8 pages in length. The law, an ever-evolving concept, must uphold the rights of those it seeks to serve. Whether alleged offender or victim, the legal process is in place as a means by which to advocate the equity inherent to a civilized society. The Supreme Court has been an instrumental force in establishing the extent to which law enforcement must obey constitutional interpretation no differently than the alleged perpetrator; one area in which this ongoing process set a significant precedent ruling is with the Miranda law, which states even though an alleged perpetrator is caught with the evidence that, for example, might otherwise link him to a robbery, if he is not fully Mirandized before spontaneously giving his confession, it will ultimately – and lawfully – cause his declaration to be thrown out of court. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Hobbes, Aquinas And Plato: The Role Of Morality In Establishing An Obligation To Obey Law
[ send me this essay ]
7 pages in length. Ever since the time when mankind required the inclusion of law as a means by which to settle disputes and create a more agreeable community, the issue of legal infiltration has been the subject of myriad dissatisfied individuals who believe that the implementation of law has been significantly more detrimental than beneficial. Others, however, contend that without the presence of law, human morality would not stand on its own as a deterrent to crime and otherwise unwanted social behavior. Thomas Hobbes, St. Thomas Aquinas and Plato postulated the issues surrounding the role of morality in establishing an obligation to obey law; from these three men, one can readily surmise that law most certainly has a place within society's civil framework. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Homicide Among Black Americans
[ send me this essay ]
16 pages in length. Stereotypical, knee-jerk public opinions often accuse black Americans of being perpetrators in more homicides than white offenders. While statistics back up this claim to some extent, what is not as readily realized is that black Americans also represent the highest number of homicide victims between the two races. In the year 2000, a population of 6.1% white males between the ages of fourteen and twenty-four reflected a homicide victim rate of 10.0% and an offender rate of 17.3%, while a 1.1% black population of the same age group produced 14.8% victims and 27.4% offenders (FBI, 2002). There are a number of variables that comprise the reasons why young, black Americans are more vulnerable to homicide death than any other populations, including alcohol, firearm accessibility, drugs, poverty, unemployment, racial discrimination, cultural beliefs, gender oppression, as well as a growing concern over popular culture's preoccupation with violence stemming from "television and movie violence and the role it plays in initiating the idea that problems are solved through violence. For example, by age 16, an average child has witnessed approximately 16,000 murders on the television screen" (OSDH, 2003). Bibliography lists 21 sources.

How a Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree Contributes to My Career Goals
[ send me this essay ]
A 4 page paper discussing the benefits of a bachelor's degree. Certainly it is possible to function in the criminal justice system without knowledge of the in-depth subjects that can be addressed in pursuit of a bachelor's degree, but growing complexity of situations; increased attention to ethical decision-making; and the need to assess situations on their own merit increasingly point to the baccalaureate degree as being preferable over the shorter, more technically-oriented associate's degree.
