Effects Of Political Machines In The Late Nineteenth Century
[ send me this essay ]
3 pages in length. The last half of the nineteenth century was a time of significant political growing pangs. As a means by which to address the concerns that had sprouted up throughout the previous decades, the country's officials decided to implement what was termed political machines: a well-oiled operation that, some feel, took advantage of immigrant labor workers and the rest of America. While these political machines were initially created in order for politicians to gain a more solid voter following, it also served to undermine the very integrity upon which America had been established. Indeed, the only people who stood to benefit from the outcome of political machines were the ones who held a significantly higher social status. The writer discusses political machines as they relate to the late nineteenth century. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Electronic Monitoring in Community Corrections
[ send me this essay ]
An 11 page paper examining GPS-based electronic monitoring of offenders. The concept of “house arrest” is an old one and in the past was accomplished by placing armed guards outside the residence of the detainee. Early forms of electronic monitoring focused on ensuring that the detainee remain in a specific location. Today’s capabilities allow the offender to work, and also alert police when s/he is not where s/he is supposed to be. Not only do today’s GPS-based systems alert police to such information, they also provide the offender’s exact location. There are questions of “fairness” of such tight control, but offenders’ alternative is prison, where they are expensive guests of the state and the state’s taxpayers. The present generation of electronic monitoring devices allow police to control offenders’ actions while offenders support themselves. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Employment Outcomes of Ex-Offender JTPA Trainees
[ send me this essay ]
This 6 page report discusses an article with the above title that examines
the relationship between trainees participating in the JTPA programs who were ex-offenders and had been incarcerated compared to non-offenders who faced other barriers to employment. Not surprisingly, research generally supported the assumption that
those without an arrest record were typically thought of more
highly, regardless of the qualifications or experience of a
person who had been convicted of a crime. Yet a surprisingly
little amount of research has actually been done on the issue. No
secondary sources.
