Trends in HR Function and Strategy
[ send me this essay ]
A 30 page paper discussing the changes that have occurred in HR in the recent past, particularly in the use of Internet recruiting. HRM likely will never return to the patterns common even 20 years ago. The function’s roles had changed materially far in advance of the advent of the Internet, particularly in the call for HR departments to positively contribute to organizations’ bottom lines and then later to join strategic planning and function. Today’s environment is much different, partly as a result of that evolution over past years, partly because of the advances in technology and connectivity. That HR will never be the same seems to be a given. Bibliography lists 25 sources.

Trends in Web Development
[ send me this essay ]
A 12 page paper discussing the future of web development, particularly as it applies to changing business needs, user needs, J2EE and the evolution of Microsoft.NET. There is debate within the industry in which will take the lead in the future, of course, but it appears that there are no other contenders. Some believe that J2EE is a passing tool useful only until .NET ceases being first generation, but others see J2EE as providing a glimpse into the future that can be used in the present. Eight sources in 13 endnotes.

Turkle's "Can You Hear Me Now?" - Summary/Response
[ send me this essay ]
4 pages in length. Technology is taking over the task of being human. With the sweeping array of technological advancements over the recent past, people have become conveniently left out of their own lives. Turkle's article in Forbes entitled "Can You Hear Me Now" is a study in the disappearing act of human nature: The more technology removes the need for person-to-person interaction, the more people are becoming less and less capable of interacting with each other or themselves. Indeed, today's myriad modes of communication - e-mail, cell phones, texting - are considered a vast improvement in the way people exchange ideas and transmit information, however, Turkle points out how these transmissions are accomplished in a sort of automated fashion without any emotionally tangible connection to the recipient - or themselves. As man works feverishly to isolate humanity from itself in the name of progress, he moves equally as fast in the direction that will replace this fleeting interaction with a falsified intimacy tailored toward the robotic machines that only once existed in science fiction stories. Universal Design
[ send me this essay ]
3 pages in length. Social equity has come to mean a number of aspects whereby people who do not necessarily fit neatly into a standard description are still provided means by which they can adapt and live a close to "normal" as possible amidst society. Normality, after all, is a relative term when discussing the vast amount of people who live within a social environment, however, there is a commonly accepted understanding of what is considered normal in a given society which serves to guide how social policy is crafted; those who dwell outside this prescribed boundary often have to fight the system in order to be given the same level of consideration. The physically disabled have long struggled to enter buildings, use public payphones or sit at tables that are built too low because there was no definitively universal design that adapted to all who would need to access or use a particular place. Now with the unstoppable growth of the Internet, it has come to pass how Web sites must also be user-friendly for those who use alternate means of access. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
