Benchmarking HarperCollins' Approach to E-Book Sales
[ send me this essay ]
A 3 page paper examining HarperCollins' approach to electronic media. Harrison-Keyes has met only with significant problems in developing a sales model centered on electronic formats. It now seeks to benchmark another publishing company. The approach that HarperCollins has taken to e-book distribution thus far is one that can be highly workable at Harrison-Keyes. The only real responsibility is that of digitizing and storing products; online retailers assume all other sales-related responsibilities. This approach can benefit Harrison-Keyes in two ways: preventing the need for immense departures from budgeted IT upgrades and avoiding competing with the retailers that have sold Harrison-Keyes books for years. Best Practices in Use of Information
[ send me this essay ]
A 9 page outline of ten examples of best practices in knowledge management. The late Peter Drucker warned decades ago that virtually all workers in the future (i.e., now) would be knowledge workers. Information technology has come to provide the backbone of business operation rather than merely recording historical results as it did only a generation ago. Today's firms must seek out greater speed, efficiency and cost savings as never before. The paper provides five "best practices" in seeking out quality, speed and flexibility, followed by five more "best practices" in using information as a business asset. Bibliography lists 16 sources.

Better Read That Again/Web Hoaxes
[ send me this essay ]
A 3 page reaction paper to an article by Paul Piper entitled "Better read that again: web hoaxes and misinformation" is an informative survey of different categories of misinformation, which includes everything from racist propaganda to intentional joke pages on the Internet. The writer argues that Piper's article goes to the heart of an issue that has been frequently overlooked, but is nevertheless inherent in US culture, which is the prevalent misconception that anything--literally anything--if it appears in print or is said on television, has to be true. The writer argues further that if the misinformation on the Internet raises the level of skepticism in the American public, it is a good thing. No additional sources cited.

Bill Gates and Microsoft: Background, Developments and Controversy
[ send me this essay ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing Bill Gates: history, controversy and Microsoft. Bill Gates, the co-founder and current chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft has received a great deal of controversy and criticism over the last several decades in regards to his company and practices. Early criticism was circulated by his competitors that the software developed for the highly successful Windows operating system was based on that of Apple computers’. The software industry has always been considered on a slightly different plane than that of the computer hardware industry as many people and computer programmers believe that the ownership of software has always been considered much more venerable than that of hardware. Nevertheless, the success of Microsoft software has given the company 90 percent of the current market which has resulted in an antitrust and monopoly case over the last three years. But despite the fact that the case has taken a toll on the profits of Microsoft, which still reach $9 billion each year, Gates continues in his determination to develop new ground breaking software and continues to have a hands-on involvement in all projects. It is because of this tenacity in the development of software, that regardless of controversy and court rulings, Gates would have made Microsoft a success regardless of any hindrances.
