Sports Journalists’ Influence on Sports
[ send me this essay ]
A 4 page paper assessing the statement, “Sports journalists don’t just write about sport, they define it.” Superficially, there seems to be nothing wrong with this statement, as it appears to reflect the concept of “full, fair and complete” reporting that is the hallmark of journalistic principle. In reality, however, there are myriad ways in which this journalistic vehicle can be driven in the ditch. The paper uses the *Dallas Morning News* purchase of an interest in the Dallas Mavericks as example. Much of the job of the sports writer is to offer analysis, which invites the introduction of bias and personal preference. The sports journalist does indeed walk a fine line, for s/he does have the effect of defining sport. Bibliography lists 1 source.
