Compaq's 1Q96 Sales and Reaction

The paper discusses the wisdom of Compaq moving into the area of Internet servers for business and its determination to set a Compaq standard. That sort of standard is fine as long as it is in concert with the needs of the customer, but the company's view at the time was that it was Compaq's, rather than the customer's, needs that the company intended to address.
