A 10 page paper comparing The Autobiography of Malcolm X, as told to Alex Haley with the Spike Lee movie 'Malcolm X,' released in 1992 and based on Haley's account of Malcolm X's life and political activities. Malcolm X underwent a great change in his thinking during the last year of his life, the year in which Haley's book was published (1965), but most of his political activity was public—and highly militant—long before he discovered the broader implications of the Islam to which he was so committed. As described in this paper, the movie is true to the book overall, but relies more on the negatives of racism than it does on tracing Malcolm X's evolution. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Malcolm X: A Comparison of the Autobiography (as told to Alex Haley) and the Film Directed by Spike Lee

This paper contends that while the film is more graphical and moving, by the nature of its cinematic format, both the film and Haley’s book provide the same overall picture of Malcolm X. This is a 5 page paper discussing Manes and Andrews’ 1993 biography of Microsoft’s Bill Gates. The 1993 biography “Gates: How Microsoft’s Mogul Reinvented an Industry” by Stephen Manes and Paul Andrews tells the story of the rise of Bill Gates and his company Microsoft during the early years of the computer software industry. The book is lengthy and does have several personal insights offered on Gates in the authors attempt to humanize the man deemed as America’s richest man. Manes and Andrews know a great deal about the computer industry and therefore this results in a great deal of detail about Microsoft and the industry and leaves less room for information about its central character, Gates. Nevertheless, the book still does Gates justice in revealing his motivation, competitiveness, work ethic and energy which led him to the top of his industry despite surrounding controversy, tradition and competition.
