The Stability of the Agrarian Society in the Sung and Ming Dynasties in China
[ send me this essay ]
This is a 6 page paper describing the stability of the agrarian societies of the Sung and Ming Dynasties in China. The Sung Dynasty (960-1279) and the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) were the two dynasties which provided centuries of stability, prosperity and contentment among the general population of China. The dynasties of the T’ang and Yuan (Mongols) which preceded each the Sung and the Ming did not develop the agricultural classes and were largely unstable and short-lived. The Sung Dynasty allowed for the farmers and commoners to prosper within society by allowing the farmers to buying their own land and the commoners became dominant within the government system. The aristocracy which was basically ousted from the government fled into the urban centers leaving their land behind which was bought by the farmers. The agricultural system soon flourished which brought new stability and prosperity to the general population and the government. The social, political and educational sectors all reflected the growing equality which existed in China and the positive psychological and sociological factors from Confucian thought added to the perfect civilization which was created. The Sung Dynasty fell to the Mongols and after a century of turmoil, China was again recovered during the Ming Dynasty which reestablished the agricultural base, the strength of the government and Neo-Confucian influence. The Ming Dynasty in itself reflected the prosperity of the Sung Dynasty again based on the strength and stability of its agrarian society. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
