This is a 5 page paper discussing Burmese history, culture, and traditions. Burma (Myanmar) is a country rich in culture, religion, history and traditional festivals and beliefs. Over 89 percent of the population is Buddhist and this provides a great deal of traditional structure and family values to the way of life in the country. Most of the population belongs to the agricultural sector which further retains the traditional rituals of the small communities. The political situation in Burma however is turbulent as a militant government has controlled the country for several decades which has led to a great deal of rioting, controversy and violation of human rights. Because of the political situation and record in Myanmar, some countries have imposed trade sanctions against the country which impacts the economy considerably. Despite the poor conditions however, the cultural and religious basis of Burma and the Burmese remains intact and a significant and central aspect of lives of the people. Cambodian Women and the Khmer Rouge

This 7 page report discusses the genocide that took place in Cambodia during the totalitarian regime of the Khmer Rouge in 1975-1979. Various empirical studies reported that Cambodian women experienced the most extensive trauma. These women were victims of physical violence, often of a sexual nature, perpetrated by their fellow citizens. They were exposed to multiple forms of emotional abuse, torture, and forced labor. Many witnessed the deaths or executions of their husbands, and most lost at least one, and often several, of their children. Canada: Little Tolerance For Hybridized Identity

Pearl Harbor created fear in the hearts of all North Americans; in order to quell that fear and maintain control over its political, social and economic concerns, Canada worked hard to harshly dissuade any hybrid Japanese residents from becoming spies. These tactics, considered to be over-reactive at best and downright inhumane at worst, included the complete and utter downgrade of a once-participatory and mainstreamed population by forcing Japanese Canadians to forfeit their property, and, after being deprive of liberty, the men "were impressed into forced labor and the women and children transported to ghost towns and abandoned mining camps in the interior of the country to fend for themselves" (Milton 8). The disturbing sting of this sudden intolerance for an individual's hybrid identity has lasted long after the initial reason for its original existence, rendering Canada yet another in a long list of countries where the melting pot of multiculturalism has become an unwelcome entity, an element of modernity painfully portrayed in Wayson Choy's "Jade Peony" and Joy Kogawa's "Obasan."
